Consumer Alert for fire inspection scam in Prince George's County, Maryland

Consumer Alert for fire inspection scam in Prince George's County, Maryland

here's a warning tonight from the Office of the Fire Marshall in Prince George's County after something just didn't seem right about this flyer.
Several people called about a notice from the Fire Prevention Office seeking a $25 payment for a fire inspection. But, this is not legit, it's a scheme to take your money.
One way to figure out if something is shady is to check the spelling and grammar. The bogus notice misspells the word residents and then there's a statement that reads "the document that you will receive from the firefighter has to be given to your licensing specialist."
Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department does not charge for fire inspections under some circumstances, but they say they would never solicit in this way.
So, if you get a flyer, ignore it, and call them at 301-583-1830.
